5 Infantry Division Celebrates 44th Tarehe Sita In Lira City
The 5 Infantry Division, together with other sister forces, has joined hands to celebrate the 44th Tarehe Sita by conducting a community cleaning exercise in Lira City.
The event, which took place at the city’s main market and bus park, was attended by local leaders and members of the business community.
The Deputy Commander of the 5 Infantry Division, Col David Opero, expressed gratitude to the local leaders and business community for their participation.
“This exercise is taking place across both the Lango and Acholi sub-regions. It is in commemoration of the war that took place years ago, and through such activities, we come together to foster economic growth and transformation. This unity strengthens the spirit of Pan-Africanism, as seen in our efforts to clear ADF insurgents and our peacekeeping mission in Somalia,” Col Opero said.
Col Opero also appealed to leaders in the region to educate the youth on the benefits of the Parish Development Model (PDM), emphasising its role in poverty alleviation.
The Lira City Mayor, Mr. Sam Atul urged both security forces and civilians to work together to ensure security and economic transformation.
“We shall only be happy once we achieve these goals. This is a collective responsibility for all officers, whether in the police or UPDF. Even with a small piece of land, one can plant trees and, in a short period, create wealth. I believe our Commander-in-Chief’s message is the same for all of us,” Mayor Atul stated.
The celebrations and activities for the 44th Tarehe Sita Anniversary are being held in the Greater Masaka region.
