The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has officially begun the conduct of the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) examinations for Senior Six candidates across the country.

Speaking to journalists, Jennifer Kalule, UNEB spokesperson, said that candidates started writing the Theory of Government and Procedural Development, History of Africa, and Physics Paper 1 this morning. In the afternoon, arts candidates will write Poetry, Literature, and English Poetry, while science candidates will tackle Physics Paper 2.

The examinations will continue until 5 December 2025, after which marking will commence. UNEB confirmed that all examination materials were distributed to 2,844 centers nationwide without major challenges.

A total of 166,402 candidates are registered for the UACE exams, reflecting a 14.6% increase compared to last year. Out of these, 28 candidates are from Luzira Prison, including one female and 27 males.

UNEB has also made provisions for 521 candidates with special needs, including sign language interpreters, transcribers, braille question papers, and additional time where necessary.

Kalule cautioned the public against involvement in malpractice, noting that violators will be prosecuted under the UNEB Act, with penalties ranging from 5 to 10 years’ imprisonment. Field personnel are also held accountable for exam irregularities under Section 261G of the Act, which carries a maximum of five years imprisonment.

“I want to caution the public against involvement in any form of malpractice. Anyone apprehended will be dealt with in accordance with the UNEB Act, with penalties ranging from 5 to 10 years’ imprisonment.” she said

She added: “All our field personnel, including scouts and regulators, are reminded that if malpractice occurs under their supervision, they will be held responsible under Section 261G of the Act, which carries a maximum of five years imprisonment.”

Media personnel were asked to avoid coverage of examination materials during distribution or within exam rooms to prevent tampering and ensure the integrity of the exams. UNEB has provided toll-free numbers for reporting malpractice, ensuring protection under its whistleblower policy.

“We request media personnel not to cover examination material at distribution points or inside examination rooms, as this may constitute tampering and is an offence.”she stated
