ED Umoja Youth Initiative Remanded Over Forging First Lady’s Signature
Kenneth Niwamanya, the Executive Director of Umoja Youth Initiative Development Uganda, was remanded to Luzira prison by the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court on charges of forgery.
He is accused of forging the signature of Uganda’s First Lady, and Education Minister Janet Kataha Museveni.
Prosecution heard that Niwamanya created fake letters bearing the First Lady’s signature to get funds for a function at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds. He had used her name as the guarantor of his organization.
Although Niwamanya denied the charges, presiding Magistrate at the Buganda Road Court Ivan Kyazze was unable to secure him bail due to a lack of sureties and will remain in custody until September 23, 2024, as investigations continue
He was arrested on August 22, 2024, at the Ministry of Education’s offices with the forged letters.
