The MK Movement, under the leadership of Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has undergone a significant transformation, rebranding itself as the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU).

This decision was announced at a launch event held in Naguru, a suburb of Kampala, where over 100 prominent figures including government officials, lawmakers, and Gen. Muhoozi’s supporters gathered to witness the unveiling of the new identity.

The PLU aims to rejuvenate a sense of patriotism among Ugandans and foster national pride. It seeks to engage citizens in activities that promote national unity, good citizenship, and the protection of vulnerable members of society.

Additionally, the organization vows to combat corruption and wastage of public resources while advocating for environmental preservation.

Key government figures, including Daudi Kabanda, Agriculture Minister Frank Tumwebaze, Microfinance Minister Haruna Kasolo, and ICT State Minister Godfrey Kabbyanga Baluku, attended the event, underscoring political support for the PLU’s mission. Former State Minister for Primary Health Care Mike Mukula and other central committee members of the MK Movement also graced the occasion.

The proclamation issued by the MK Movement’s Central Committee emphasizes the importance of patriotism and civic duty in achieving national unity, peace, and development. It outlines the PLU’s commitment to mobilize Ugandans to fulfill their civic responsibilities for the collective benefit of society.

“We the MK Movement …  HEREBY CONSTITUTE ourselves into a civic organisation and ASSUME AND ADOPT a new name and identity, the PATRIOTIC LEAGUE OF UGANDA, with the aim of working towards reviving in Ugandans a spirit of good citizenship, national pride, national service, protection of vulnerable persons, combating corruption and wastage of public resources, and protection of the environment,” the proclamation reads in part.

Gen. Muhoozi, currently serves as a Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations.
