Police ion Kampala are still investigating circumstances under which a Bar aviation aircraft with flight registration No. 5X-RBR crashed at Kajjansi Airfield in Entebbe.

The injured pilots identified as Lt Dagalious Owino and Joel Kanguli, are currently admitted at Memorial Hospital Lubowa for further medical attention.

Preliminary findings indicate that the Aircraft was taking off from Kajjansi Airfield at approximately 12:19 PM on Friday, when it experienced difficulties and attempted to return for landing. However, the two pilots failed to successfully land causing the plane to crash near MAF Hangars.

Luke Owoyesigyire , the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesman says the co-pilot sustained an injury to the right hand, while the pilot was rendered unconscious. He says airfield workers rushed to the scene and quickly rescued the pilots from the wreckage, providing immediate first aid.

The plane was enroute to Mweya-Kasese,to pick up a total of 14 passengers that they had earlier transported to Kisoro via the via Mbarara and Kihihi route. The passengers were supposed to travel back to Entebbe International Airport.

“The same aircraft, operated by two pilots, prepared for a flight from Kajjansi to Mweya-Kasese, with the intention of transporting passengers back to Entebbe International Airport. Unfortunately, shortly after takeoff from Kajjansi Airfield, the aircraft experienced difficulties and attempted to return for landing. Tragically, the aircraft crashed at Kajjansi Airfield, in close proximity to MAF Hangars.” said Owoyesigyire

He says  team from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) arrived at the scene to inspect the aircraft, and an additional group from the Ministry of Works and Transport, also arrived to assess the situation as investigations progress.

However, the exact cause of cause of the aircraft crash is not yet known.
