Luwero Factory Machines Smash 25yr-old Worker to Death

A worker, Isaac Rwothomiyo, 25, lost his life under investigation-worthy circumstances at Victoria Sugar Factory in Ndibulungi village in Butuntumula Sub county, Luwero district.

The incident occurred around 9:00 am on Monday, where Rwothomiyo was reportedly crashed by machines. Initial findings suggest that a heap of waste material, known as bagasse, used for heating the boiler, fell on him before he slipped into the machines, leading to his tragic death.

Savannah Region Police spokesperson Sam Twineamazima revealed that the machines were in operation without proper safety measures, posing a risk to workers.

Twineamazima says police have launched investigations into a case of negligence that resulted in the worker’s death. He explains that statements from fellow workers have been taken to aid in the inquiry.

The regional police spokesman says operations at the factory have been temporarily halted following the incident. As of now, the factory management has not provided a statement on the matter.
