A total of nine suspects with alleged connections to acts of terrorism in Uganda, notably associated with the ADF terror group, have been formally committed to the high court for trial, with heightened security measures in place.

The suspects, who include two women and one individual with a baby, were transported from Luzira Prison, where they had been incarcerated, to face trial in court.

The prosecution has leveled several serious charges against them, including participation in a high-profile attack on the convoy of Principal Judge Flavian Zeija. Furthermore, they stand accused of the murder of three police officers at Busiika Police Station, multiple civilian murders, and involvement in armed robberies.

The crimes in question occurred on October 31, 2022, when the suspects attacked Busiika Police Station, resulting in the fatal shooting of three police officers – Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) Alex Wagaruka, Police Constable Moses, and Police Constable Odama Steven.

Apart from the charges directly related to the acts of violence, the suspects also face allegations of belonging to a terrorist organization. The prosecution claims that these individuals openly confessed to being members of the ADF, which is designated as a terrorist organization.

The commitment of these suspects to the high court follows the submission of relevant documents by Senior State Attorney Ivan Kyazze.

These documents signify that the investigative process has been completed, and the Director of Public Prosecutions is prepared to initiate the prosecution. The nine suspects are identified as Moses Katende, Faisal Musana, Abudallatif Balikoowa, and Adam Weduma, alongside five others, including their spouses.Following their committal to the high court, they were further remanded to different prisons, specifically Luzira, Kigo, and Kitalya, where they will await trial.
