Police in Kampala have arrested and charged 59 suspects linked to the “one million march” organized to welcome the NUP President on October 5, 2023.

The suspects face charges of holding an unlawful assembly and incitement to violence.

Fred Enanga, the Uganda police spokesperson says  46 suspects were charged in Kajjansi division under sections 65 and 66 of the Penal Code Act, pertaining to holding an unlawful assembly. Meanwhile, 9 suspects have been charged in Entebbe Division for their participation in an unlawful assembly, and 4 individuals from Kawempe division have been charged with incitement to violence under section 82 (1) of the Penal Code Act.

In a separate development, he says 37 suspects have been released on police bond under Entebbe police division, with the expectation that they will report back as required.

Enanga also says in Kasangati, police are actively searching for suspects believed to be responsible for setting fire to roads using tires and petrol, causing extensive damage. Upon apprehension, these individuals will face charges related to various road offenses. Law enforcement is also closely monitoring social media and digital platforms to identify anyone involved in similar criminal activities related to the incidents mentioned above.
