Police in Soroti are hunting for 15suspects accused of raping and robbing from a 23 year old woman on September 19, 2023.

The police spokesperson Fred Enanga says the suspects gang raped the woman on September 19, 2023, around midnight, at Odeke cell, Nakalunya ward, Western division in Soroti City.

Enanga says the victim had visited her male friend at Camp Swahili after work on September 18, 2023. She departed around 10 p.m. to return home but encountered her two cousins, Isaac and Nathan, along the way. The cousins took her to a bar in Wire Cell for a drink. At around midnight, they left the bar with the victim, and shortly thereafter, they were joined by a group of approximately 13 men.

Enanga says the two cousins threatened the victim with knives, demanding that she undress after which they robbed her of her phone and cash amounting to 200,000/=, shoes, vest, bra, and knickers and fled the scene.

He states that police is hunting for the suspects.

This incident comes as police investigate another rape involving an 80 year old woman in Amuru District

Police are currently holding the 20-year-old suspect, Oyet Sunday, who is accused of raping an 80-year-old woman.

The alleged incident occurred on September 20, 2023, at approximately 5 a.m., in Okojo-andara village, Labala parish, Amuru district.

According to Enanga, the suspect forcibly entered the victim’s residence by pushing open the door, which had been secured from the inside with a stone. Once inside, he menacingly grabbed the elderly victim by the neck and issued threats, warning her not to raise an alarm. Tragically, the victim was sexually assaulted and sustained serious injuries during the ordeal.

Enanga says the victim courageously shared her harrowing experience with neighbors, who promptly initiated a search for the perpetrator. They successfully tracked down the suspect by following the distinctive shoeprints left in the muddy terrain.

He explains that  the suspect’s underpants were seized and sent for forensic examination due to suspected bloodstains, potentially for DNA comparison.
