Museveni mourns with earthquake victims in syria, turkey

President Yoweri Museveni has commiserated with victims of the deadly 7.9 multitude earthquake in Syria and Turkey that claimed over 5000 lives.
More than 5,000 people have been killed in the 7.8 magnitude quake that hit both countries on Monday.

 

In a message on his social media platforms, the president grieved with Ugandans affected by the incident.

“I am deeply saddened by the deaths, injuries and loss of property in Turkey and Syria in the aftermath of a devastating earthquake. My thoughts and prayers, and those of all Ugandans,are with the families who have lost their loved ones. May their souls rest in eternal peace.

Communities from across the south of England are rallying together to offer help to those affected by the earthquake in Turkey and Syria.” he said

International NGO Khalsa Aid, which has an office in Slough, Berkshire, has confirmed it will be dispatching a team from the UK and one from Iraq to help provide food and water.

Several UK charities, such as Oxfam and Disasters Emergency Committee, have also launched appeals.

Donations and help are being sent by groups in Dorset and Berkshire while nine firefighters from the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have also been deployed to Turkey.

A collection is under way at Meyrick Park Cafe in Bournemouth. Residents have been asked to donate blankets, food, sanitary products and clothes for people of all ages.
