Buganda Kingdom and Airtel Uganda have announced the 11th edition of the Kabaka Birthday Run, scheduled for April 7, 2024. This annual event, celebrating the birthday of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, has become a significant fixture on both Airtel Uganda’s and the country’s calendars. It champions noble causes that resonate within the community.

Echoing the theme of the previous year, the 2024 run will focus on “Ending HIV/AIDS by 2030,” reflecting the collective determination to tackle one of the most pressing global health challenges.

During the launch at Bulange, Mengo, Airtel Uganda’s Managing Director, Manoj Murali, encouraged Ugandans to participate in the marathon for the betterment of their communities. He emphasized the importance of running for a cause close to their hearts, namely ending HIV/AIDS. Proceeds from the run will directly support the fight against this epidemic, aligning with the overarching goal of ending HIV/AIDS by 2030.

Last year’s edition of the Kabaka Birthday Run distributed over 100,000 kits to participants and was hailed as one of the most successful marathons.

Buganda Katikkiro, Charles Peter Mayiga, also spoke about the Kingdom’s vision for the initiative. He highlighted the aim of bringing about social and economic transformation for the people of Buganda and Uganda.
Mayiga emphasized the crucial role of health in this transformation, particularly the health of ordinary citizens who significantly contribute to the country’s growth. He expressed solidarity with the international community, UNAIDS, Uganda AIDS Commission, and all those involved in promoting health in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Mayiga underscored the Kabaka’s role as a positive ambassador for the African continent.
